Statement of the APO (Greece) against the repressive campaign of the state

The repressive attack of August 26th with the invasion of an occupying army of Special Repression Counter Terrorist Units and squads of Riot Police and the eviction of four squats, the arrests of three squatters and the detention of 143 refugees and immigrants and their removal from the housing squats, was the first act of a war operation. An operation that has already been announced from the officials of the authority and has been prepared through the systematic targeting of the anarchist movement and of all those who struggle, by the little Goebbelses of the media.

Τhis operation occurred right after the voting of anti-labor laws, the abolition of University asylum, the fortification of the racist legislation against immigrants and refugees, the repressive plans against squats in Athens and Ioannina. After the elections of July 7th, the new government, based on the actions of the previous administration, unfolded the agenda for the next years and pointed out their main enemies, the enemies of every government: the anarchists, the people of the struggle, the immigrants and refugees and the workers. This war campaign against all the people of the struggle is a part of the systematic effort of the Greek state to subjugate the social and class resistances and impose submission. An effort which always came up against the brick wall of mass and dynamic mobilizations, of revolts and struggles.

The bankruptcy of the state and capitalist system, the continuous reproduction and deepening of its decay, leads to the intensification of exclusions and countless violence against the poor, to the looting and unrepairable destruction of nature, to the death of devastated people in the borders, the impoverished survival at the modern-day working galleys.

Both at international and local level, the dominants’ fear of the discontent and rage against these conditions, leads to the upgrading of their legal and repressive fortification, to the fierce ideological war that goes so far as to dehumanize their opponents and those who irritate the regime. From Greece to France, the authoritarian lackeys are referring to those who are targeting as “scums” and “trash”, as a prelude to the exercise of murderous violence.

They are attempting to spread fear, because there are thousands of people against them. The images of fully-armed policemen and the invasion of police squads in Exarcheia and the squats have many recipients, all those who are suffocating under this regime of exploitation and submission. These are the ones that the anarchist movement addresses to and draws its strength from. What is critical nowadays is the massive and combative presence on the streets, the counter-attack against the guards of the praetorians, the collective response of the people of the struggle and the repressed. The outcome of the battle against this long-term repressive campaign will determine the balance of power between the state and the bosses from one side and the plebeians on the other, for the years to come.

With solidarity as our weapon, let’s give the signal for a counter-attack to state and capitalist brutality. Let’s revitalize social and class resistance. We are calling the anarchist comrades, the squatters, all those who struggle all over the world to organize mobilizations and actions in solidarity with the anarchist movement and squats in Greece. Internationalist solidarity could raise another barricade to the plans of the state and capital and to strengthen the resistance of the people of the struggle in every corner of the world.

As Anarchist Political Organization, we participate, support and call to the mobilizations organized by the assembly of anarchist squats, housing squats for refugees and immigrants, structures of the movement and political collectives NO PASARAN! in Athens and the demonstrations of August 31st and September 14th. We support the Libertarian Festival of squats in Thessaloniki (3-6 September) and we also call to the demonstration against the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki on September 7th and to the protest in Patra, on Saturday, August 31st in Esperos.
